Cohoes, NY (September 17, 2020) – The City of Cohoes has reached an agreement with the Cohoes Local 2562 Firefighters Union that will keep staffing at a safe level and save taxpayers $130,000 over the next two years.
Designed to contain overtime costs in response to the fiscal crisis due to COVID-19 related revenue losses expected to exceed $1-million this year, the agreement between the City and firefighters union addresses staffing levels and scheduling, and guarantees no layoffs in the Fire Department thru 2022.
Applauding the Firefighters for their cooperation, Mayor Keeler said: “We are facing an unprecedented fiscal crisis, that requires tough decisions, but safety for our firefighters and our community must remain our highest priority. This agreement allows us to keep our community and our firefighters safe, while achieving essential budget savings. It is a win, win, win.”
Cohoes Fire Chief Joseph Fahd said: “We thank the union for their cooperation and willingness to negotiate with Mayor Keeler and myself. This agreement is a benefit not only to the citizens of the city, but members of the department. This ensures we will be able to keep safe levels of staffing during this fiscal crisis.”
