COHOES N.Y.- Mayor
Shawn Morse, the Cohoes Police Department, along with the New York State Police
including the New York State Police Major Crimes and Forensic Investigation
Unit, announces the arrest of Thomas Slivienski for Murder in the 2nd degree.
On November 16, 2018 Johni Dunia was shot and killed on
the bike path adjacent to Central Ave in the City of Cohoes. After an intensive
investigation by both agencies and with technical assistance by the Capital
Region Crime Analysis Center and the FBI the investigation led Detectives and
Investigators to Thomas Slivienski, age 22 of 313 19th Street in Watervliet,
NY.
Slivienski was arraigned in Cohoes Criminal Court by
Judge Andra Ackerman and remanded to Albany County Jail with no bail.
*A press conference was held Wednesday evening,
November 21st at 9:45PM in the Cohoes Police Chief’s Office.
Mayor Morse said, "I am grateful to the entire
Cohoes Police Department lead by Chief Heslin and Assistant Chief Ross and our
partners in the State Police and FBI for their quick work in apprehending and
subsequently making an arrest of Thomas Slivienski.”
The city of Cohoes remains one of the safest cities in
the capital region and this arrest only underscores that if you commit a crime
in our community you will quickly be apprehended arrested and prosecuted to the
fullest extent of the law.
