Dr. Paul VanBuskirk has recently published a new book, “Big Mike, Uncle Dan and Me.”
We wish to invite the community and the region to his book signing party to be held on Saturday September 25th at the Cohoes Music Hall and Cohoes Visitor’s Center 58 Remsen Street beginning at 3:00 pm, starting with a conversation with Paul on stage.
Paul’s historic memoir is a David vs Goliath story begins, as a 24 year old college professor and engineer led the movement to organize its citizens to challenge and defeat the 40 year reign of Big Mike’s political machine. Then with citizen participation in our city government carried out major projects, programs, and reforms, including the removal of politics from the school board and implementing an elected board. As a results of these accomplishments Cohoes received the highly-competitive All-America City Award. Many Cohoes High Alumni participated in this movement.
The All-American City Award propelled the city into the national forum for its civic achievements and reforms; and is considered the Nobel Prize for constructive citizenship. The New York Times devoted a half page with several pictures depicting the city celebrating its All-American City Award. The heading across the page read, “Cohoes, N.Y.: An Upstate Community Goes All Out to Celebrate the New Step to Which It Is Marching.”
For those unable to attend the book is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and BAM.
